When you’re a business owner, first impressions are key. You want potential customers and clients to take you seriously, and see you as an authority in your industry. Unfortunately, if you’re using Wix for your business website, that may not be the case.
38% of people will stop engaging with a website if the content or layout is unattractive.
People may even laugh at your website because it looks unprofessional. Ok maybe they won’t actually laugh out loud, but they will definitely think it looks cheap and amateurish.
Wix may be tempting to use because it’s free and easy to set up. But if you want your business to look its best, you need a website that’s been designed by professionals.
Here are 7 reasons why using Wix for your business website is a mistake:
These are just a few of the reasons why you should avoid using Wix for your business website. If you want to be taken seriously, and look like an authority in your industry, invest in a website that’s been designed by professionals. It will make all the difference in how potential customers perceive your business.
1. Unprofessional Look and Feel
Better UI could raise your website’s conversion rate by 200%, and better UX design could yield conversion rates of up to 400%.
Look at the website above in the image above. It looks dull and boring.
The average Wix site looks like it was made in 2010. This is because the templates and designs are outdated and not on par with current web design trends. If you want your website to look modern and professional and convert visitors into customers, you need to steer clear of Wix.
2. Lack of Customization
I wouldn’t pick Wix. Nut when it comes to “Easy”, it definitely ranks at the top. Very simple with no clutters. Running a blog with Wix is convenient.

But when it comes to power, customization and scalability, WordPress is the way to go.
Researchers investigated how various design and information content elements impact users’ trust in internet healthcare sites. The look and feel of the website were identified as the most important factor determining first impressions.
Of all the feedback the test participants gave, 94% was about design.
How’s this relate to Wix you might be asking?
Well, with Wix you are severely limited in how you can customize your website. This lack of customization makes it difficult to create a website that truly represents your brand and sets you apart from your competitors.
3. Lack of Control
With Wix, you’re limited in what you can do with your website.
Feeling the pain of trying to update my website (platform is @wix). Content disappearing, links not linking, no control over things (it has a mind of its own). Bear with me if my website is not looking great. 2 days in and I still cannot get a list of services in there!!

You can’t make major changes or customize your site without upgrading to a paid plan. This means that if you want to change your website’s design or add new features, you may run into some challenges.
Whereas with something like WordPress, you have full control over your website. You can make whatever changes you want, whenever you want.

4. Wix Ads
Unless you upgrade to a paid plan, your website will include Wix ads. These can be distracting and make your site look less professional.
“When I visit a website and see a big banner ad, it makes me less likely to take that website seriously,” says one user. “I can’t hit the back button fast enough.”
So if you want to keep people on your website and avoid having them think your business is a joke, you need to get rid of the ads.
5. Limited Storage and Bandwidth
Wix websites come with limited storage and bandwidth. This means that if your website starts to get a lot of traffic, you may be in trouble.
Free Wix sites come with (up to) 500MB of storage and (up to) 500MB bandwidth.
Here’s what will take up 500MB of storage:
- 24,000 average-sized website pages
- 250 high-resolution product photos
- 5 minutes of HD video
What about 500MB bandwidth?
- Just 20,000 visitors viewing just 1 page each will use up your entire 500MB.
- Or 10,000 visitors viewing 5 pages each.
- Or 5,000 visitors viewing 10 pages each.
If you want your website to be able to handle a lot of traffic, you need unlimited storage and bandwidth. Wix doesn’t offer this with their free plan.
6. Difficult to Switch Platforms
If you decide you want to switch to another platform, it can be difficult to move your Wix website.
Because WIX is a proprietary platform, they make it deliberately hard to leave.
Websites like @Wix are so predatory. You build a site with them and you can’t export it anywhere else so if they raise prices by nearly double like, they are about to do, you are just screwed if you want to keep your site.

Wix does not allow you to export your content as a PDF, and they do not have an export feature. This means that if you want to switch platforms, you’ll have to start from scratch.
We can’t tell you the number of websites we’ve converted from WIX to WordPress. It’s a pain, but in the end, our clients end up with a much better website.
Their SEO is improved, the design is better, and they have a lot more control.
But it’s not an easy process to switch platforms.
7. You’re Not Really the Owner
Wix owns your website, not you. This means they can delete your site at any time, for any reason.
And if they do delete your site, you won’t be able to get it back.
You won’t be able to get lost revenue from a down website.
You won’t have a chance to save your content.
Your competitors will be happy to take your place.
And they’ll laugh at you while they do it.
When you use Wix, you’re giving up a lot of control. And you’re taking a big risk.
And then there’s this:
If you are on @Wix the CCP owns you, pretty simple. Maybe think about changing that unless you like genocidal Pooh Bear over your shoulder. https://t.co/b5cb9gv3HQ

Is it Really Worth it?
We don’t think so.
There are much better options out there. Options that will give you the control you need to build a successful website.
Wix may be tempting because it’s free and easy to use. But if you want a website that looks professional and helps you grow your business, you need to steer clear of Wix.
Instead, invest in a website that is designed by professionals and will help you to stand out from your competitors.
Your business is worth it.
