AI Search Optimization for Law Firms

When someone asks an assistant who handles a succession in Livingston Parish, one firm gets named. This is the work that decides which one.

Answer engines do not hand back ten links. They pick.

Being the Firm the Assistant Names

The Legal Services Corporation’s 2022 study of unmet civil legal needs found that low-income Americans seek legal help for only 1 out of every 4 civil legal problems that substantially affect them, and that 46% of those who did not seek help named cost as a reason.

That study covers one income band, not your entire market, and we are not going to stretch it into something it does not say. But it names a behavior every intake coordinator already recognizes. People sit on a legal problem. They research it privately. They want a number and a plain answer before they will say their name to a stranger.

For fifteen years that private research happened across ten blue links. A large share of it now happens inside a single generated answer from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, or Google’s AI Overview. That answer names two or three firms, or it names none and tells the person to call the bar referral line.

Answer engine optimization is the work of shaping what those answers are built from. BlakSheep Creative is a veteran-owned marketing agency, not a law firm. Nothing we publish is legal advice, and every answer that goes out under your name gets approved by your firm first, because your counsel and your bar’s rules decide what you are permitted to say.

WHERE THE ANSWERS GO WRONG

Legal Is the Category AI Gets Wrong Most Often

Run your own practice areas through an assistant before you read any further. Then look at this list:

  • The model answers with common law. Louisiana runs on a Civil Code, and a general assistant will happily explain probate to someone who needs a succession, or describe an easement where the term here is a servitude. The firm that publishes the correct Louisiana version becomes the source worth quoting.
  • Your fee page does not exist. Cost is the most asked legal question there is. Silence does not read as discretion to a language model. It reads as missing data, and the gap gets filled with a national average from somebody else.
  • Nothing is written as an answer. A page that opens with the firm’s founding year and reaches the point in paragraph seven is not extractable. Assistants lift short, self-contained passages.
  • The firm has no clear identity in the data. Name, attorneys, practice areas, and service area stated three different ways across the site, the profile, and the directories.
  • There is nothing to characterize you with. Eleven reviews across four years gives a model almost no material for the sentence after your name.
  • Stale records everywhere. An attorney who left in 2019 still listed on aggregators, an old suite number, a disconnected number. Models absorb all of it without checking dates.
  • Nobody has claimed the real questions. How long a succession takes. What happens when an ex ignores a custody order. Whoever answers those in public gets cited on them.
  • The crawler cannot read the page. Content rendered by JavaScript the crawler never executes, or blocked outright in robots.txt by a web vendor who never mentioned it.

HOW AN ANSWER GETS BUILT

Feed the Machine Something Worth Repeating

An assistant is not evaluating your firm. It is assembling a sentence from the most tractable material it can find.

So we make your material the most tractable. Every page we build for an AEO program leads with a direct answer in two or three sentences, then supports it underneath. A partner reading it should feel like the page is a little blunt. That bluntness is the part machines can lift.

Then we ground it. Where an answer rests on state law, we point at the primary source, for example the Louisiana Civil Code article defining forced heirs, rather than paraphrasing a national article about wills. Traceable text gets reused. Unsourced text gets skipped, and it should be.

Louisiana specificity is the whole moat here. National legal content farms cover all fifty states badly and this state worst of all. A firm that publishes correct, plainly written Louisiana answers is competing against generic text, not against other firms. That advantage is available right now and it will not last.

What we will not do is put a number on it. There is no ranking dashboard for AI answers, no verified placement, and no supplier who can promise you a citation in ChatGPT. Anyone selling that is selling something. We track what the assistants actually say about your firm month over month and show you the transcript. That is the honest version of reporting on this.

WHAT WE RUN

The Inputs Behind a Cited Firm

Nine services. Every one of them changes something an answer engine reads about your firm.

HOW WE WORK

Why Firms Trust Us With the Answer

  • We show you the transcript, not a score. Every month you see what the assistants said when asked about your practice areas, verbatim, including the months it did not improve.
  • Approval is built into the process. Answer-first writing is direct by design, which is exactly the kind of copy a bar rule cares about. Nothing publishes without an attorney at your firm signing off. We never claim to handle compliance for you.
  • Louisiana knowledge we did not buy from a content mill. We work in this state. We know which questions get answered wrong here and why, and that is where the pages get built first.
  • No promised outcomes, ever. Not case results, not settlement figures, not a citation in an AI answer. If a claim cannot be supported, it does not go on the page.
  • We fix the plumbing too. Blocked crawlers, JavaScript-only content, and conflicting directory records get repaired before we write anything, because writing into a broken pipe is billable and useless.
  • Month to month. Veteran owned, owner operated, small enough that you talk to the person doing the work. If this stops earning its keep, you stop paying for it.

What Attorneys Ask About AI Search

Most of these come from partners who are skeptical, which is the right instinct. Here is where the skepticism is warranted and where it is not.

It overlaps but it is not identical. Classic optimization competes for a position in a list. This competes to be the passage a model quotes, which rewards short direct answers, traceable sources, and consistent records far more than link volume does.

We can improve the odds and we can show you the change over time. We cannot promise a citation and nobody can. There is no placement to buy, no dashboard confirming it, and the models change without notice. Treat any promise otherwise as a red flag.

Because general models default to common-law answers and Louisiana runs on a Civil Code. Successions instead of probate, servitudes instead of easements, community property rules that do not match most states. Correct local answers are scarce, which makes them valuable to publish.

That is a question for your counsel, not for us, and it is the right question to ask first. What we can tell you is how we work: your firm reviews and approves every page, we add whatever disclaimers you specify, and we remove anything you flag without debate.

It is a real disadvantage and we will say so, then respect the decision. If a full fee schedule is off the table, ranges, factors that move the price, and what the consultation itself costs still answer most of the question and still get picked up.

We run a fixed set of prompts against the major assistants each month and log the raw responses. You get the transcripts, including the flat months. Anyone reporting an AI visibility score out of one hundred built that scale themselves.

For some questions it already has. That is exactly why being the named firm matters more than the click count. The people who do reach out after reading an AI answer tend to arrive further along and better qualified.

No. We are not lawyers and we do not interpret bar rules. Your firm’s counsel and your state bar govern what your firm may publish. We draft, you approve, and we build only what you have cleared.
