Google Business Profile for Roofing Contractors
For a near-me roofing search, the listing is the storefront and the website is the back office.
The Listing Gets Seen Before the Website Does
A homeowner with a tarp on the roof opens Maps, taps one of the top three results, and calls. Plenty of them never load a website at all. That makes the profile the highest-leverage asset in roofing marketing, and the one most companies claimed once years ago and never touched again.
It also carries rules that matter more in this trade than most. Google’s own documentation says you can set up to 20 service areas, that you cannot define them as a radius, and that the outer boundary should not sit more than about two hours of driving time from where the business is based. A crew chasing a storm three states over runs straight into that limit. A roofer who lives in the market does not.
We build and maintain roofing profiles as standing work, not a one-time cleanup. Categories, services, photos, posts, questions, messages, and reviews. And if your address situation is not legitimate, we will say so, because a suspension costs far more than the map position was worth.
THE USUAL STATE
What We Find on a Roofing Profile
Nearly every roofing profile we audit has some version of these.
- The primary category is wrong. Contractor, general contractor, or construction company instead of Roofing Contractor. Primary category is the strongest single control you have over which searches you appear in.
- The service list runs three lines. No hail damage repair, no metal roofing, no flat roof, no gutter work, no inspection. Every service you list is another chance to match a query.
- Service areas set to a radius or to the whole state. One is no longer editable and the other reads like a chaser. Both work against you.
- Six photos, all stock. A stock roof in Colorado does nothing for a homeowner in Livingston Parish. Dated job photos from local streets do a great deal.
- Hours say closed at five during storm week. If you are taking calls until nine after an event, the profile has to say that.
- Messaging is switched on and nobody reads it. An unanswered message is worse than no messaging at all.
- The questions section is empty or hijacked. Anybody can ask and anybody can answer. Competitors and cranks do exactly that.
- Reviews stopped two years ago. Recency counts, and a wall of old reviews reads as a company that quit working.
None of this needs a new website. It needs somebody to do it and keep doing it.
THE BUILD
How We Set Up a Roofing Listing
Get the classification right, then feed it every week.
Primary category is Roofing Contractor. Secondary categories cover what you genuinely sell: gutter service, siding, sheet metal work, construction company when commercial is real revenue. We do not stack categories you do not perform, because the wrong ones dilute the profile and invite a review of your account.
Service areas get set to named towns and parishes you actually drive to, inside the two hour boundary Google describes, and they match the area pages on your website. When the listing and the site disagree about where you work, one of them is wrong and Google has no way to tell which.
Then the maintenance, which is where results come from. Job photos with real captions, uploaded weekly during season. Posts for storm response, inspection availability, and finished projects. Questions seeded with the ones you answer on the phone all day. Messages answered inside business hours or switched off. Reviews requested on a schedule and responded to every single time.
One honest warning. If you work out of your truck and your address is your house, hiding the address and running as a service-area business is correct and it does not hurt you. Renting a mailbox in a city you want to rank in is a different thing, it gets profiles suspended, and we will not set it up.
THE WORK
What Profile Management Covers
Nine pieces of ongoing work on an asset you do not own the platform for.
NO SHORTCUTS
Why Roofers Trust Us With the Profile
- We will not fake an address. No mailbox rentals, no relative’s house in the next parish. Reinstatement after a suspension can take weeks you cannot spare during season.
- We do not sell review packages. Bought reviews get filtered, and in this trade they get you reported by a competitor who is paying close attention.
- We keep it fed. Photos, posts, and questions on a weekly cadence through season. A profile set up once and abandoned drifts right back down.
- Veteran-owned and owner-run. You get the person uploading the photos, not a ticket queue.
- One roofer per service area. We are not optimizing the profile of the company you compete with.
- Cancel anytime, and the profile stays yours. We work inside your account. We never hold ownership over your head.
STRAIGHT ANSWERS
Roofing Map Pack Questions, Answered
What owners ask once they work out that the listing outperforms the website.
If customers never come to you, hide it and run as a service-area business. Google supports that and it does not hurt you. What hurts is a fake or shared address, or hiding a genuine commercial office that customers actually visit.
Roofing Contractor, in almost every case. Add honest secondaries for gutters, siding, or sheet metal if you truly perform them. Do not add categories to reach more searches. A wrong primary is the most common reason a roofer is missing from the map pack.
Google’s documentation allows up to 20, they cannot be set as a radius, and the overall boundary should stay within roughly two hours of driving time from your base. Use the towns and parishes you genuinely work, not everywhere you would take a job.
It is a small ranking signal and a real conversion tool. During storm response it is the fastest public place to say you are taking calls, how soon inspections are running, and what to do about a tarp. Treat it as a bulletin board, not a blog.
More than you think, and on a regular rhythm. A handful of dated job photos every week during season beats a one-time upload of forty. Caption each with material and job type. Nobody is grading the photography.
Usually an address that cannot be verified, a name or category that does not match the business, or several fields changed at once. Storm season also brings competitor reports. Reinstatement is possible and slow, which is why we avoid shortcuts.
No. Adding roofing contractor onto your legal name breaks Google’s representation rules and it is one of the easiest things for a competitor to report. It also happens to be what a lot of storm chasers do, so it puts you in bad company.
Category and service fixes can show within a couple of weeks. Review volume and photo cadence compound over months. Distance from the searcher still counts, so a profile in the next parish will not lead the pack in a town you do not sit in.
